What a wonderful piece of Victorian furniture. Its design suggests its use as a console or pier mirror. Its exuberant and unique carvings suggest the cabinet maker to be George Henkels of Philadelphia. The shapely mirror has a boldly carved crest with a central cartouche with leaves and berries along the sides. The original mirror rests on a fabulous marble top which is also original. The marble is unique and sumptuous having colors of yellows, golds, pale brown and off white. The marble has a moulded edge that follows the contours of the shapely base. Below the marble is a base with a drawer having a skirt covered in highly figured burled walnut. Notice the uniquely carved wooden pulls on the central drawer which is supported by a boldly carved serpentine shaped leg ending in a prominently displayed paw foot. The leg is flanked by fully turned and carved fluted columns with acanthus leaves encircling their bases. The back of the base displays its original pier mirror in a deeply moulded frame. The sides of the platform base are framed in dramatic burled walnut. What a great statement piece for your hall, foyer, parlor or dining room. The finish appears original which is in excellent condition having a deep rich color and very desirable patina.
