What a grand piece of walnut Victorian furniture in the Renaissance Revival style! This is referred to as a hall tree and hall mirror. They originally resided in the front hall to hang visitors’ coats and hats. The boldly designed crest has pierced carvings, dramatic mouldings, delicate incised carvings and applied panels of burled walnut. The tall central mirror is flanked by additional raised and recessed panels of burled walnut and prominent carvings. There are 4 original heavily cast brass hooks with figures of roaring lions on each side of the mirror. Check out the original sumptuous salmon colored, shapely marble shelf. The marble is in excellent condition. Below the shelf is a deep drawer with a heavily carved wooden pull and highly figured burled walnut front. Notice the curvaceous concave sides of the drawer. The mirror is a replacement and in excellent condition. Look closely and you will see where the sides of the mirror frame was custom cut to fit against a tall baseboard and chair rail in its original home. This is very common and does not detract from its value or beauty. There is an old repair to the frame on the top right corner next to the mirror and to the right of the drawer. This is only visible upon extremely close examination. The finish appears original and in excellent condition having an extremely desirable color and rich patina. What a statement this will make in any home or office!
