This 6 drawer walnut Victorian tall chest was most likely made by Henkels of Philadelphia, Pa. The dresser is of great quality and has some unique detailing. The corners are canted with an intricately carved acanthus leaf at the top and a narrow carved fish scale banding below. The sides have recessed panels. Notice all the drawers have burled walnut fronts with applied delicate half round mouldings. The uniquely carved drawer pulls are the feature most commonly associated with George Henkels Company. Even the key escutcheons are delicately carved. All the hand-dovetailed drawers have their original working locks. The chest retains its original brass castors. The finish is in excellent condition having a rich color and patina. There are some minor rubs and scratches on the very top as is to be expected for a piece of this age.
