A very handsome pair of Victorian 18K yellow gold cufflinks set with bright almandine garnets. The front faces are designed as garnet cabochons surrounded by a simple gold border, while the back faces are designed as a twisted-wire barbell, set at either end with garnet cabochons. The gold surfaces have a matte finish that contrasts beautifully with the garnets. The gemstones have the bright red of the finest Victorian garnets, without any of the common brownish-black overtones. The cufflinks are marked "18C". Origin: England, ca. 1890. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: front faces, 1/2" diameter; back faces, 7/8" long. Weight: 9.0 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 6.2 carats.
