A venetian schiavona sword circa 1600

Double edged blade with three central groove , long the central groove the swordsmith mark a " S  " of Venetian origin. Classic and massive basket hilt guard ,engraved and with some chiselled ligns. Typical stylized cat's head in brass with a central mask . Wooden grip covered with black leather and metal wire . Very good condition.
Total length 121 cm

Notes: very nice example and very rare size .

The mark "S" on both sides of the blade is visible in others exemples dating from the  late sixteenth century to about 1630 ; they are preserved in Florence and the Musée de l 'Armee Paris.
