This fine seascape depicting a warship sailing into a setting sun was painted by Vadim Vladimirovich Morosoff (Russian/American, 1874- ) in the first quarter of the 20th century. Signed and dates (partially obscured by frame) in lower left. Gilded wooden frame measures 35 x 29 in and the stretcher measures 30 x 24 in. There is a fair degree of craquelure, but no visible losses. Photographed both with and without flash. Morosoff lived in Brooklyn New York and is known to have exhibited at the Salons of America, and was a member of the Society of Independent Artists in the 1920s, and benefitted from the WPA.
