Tres RICHES Heures 12 Framed Prints - ANTIQUE -

Quantity available: 1
Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry Is a "book of hours" a personal prayer book with the prayers a Catholic is meant to say at all times of day. It is decorated with 12 exquisite miniature paintings—one for each month— depicting a common activity of the month with a castle belonging to the duke in the background. Those 12 masterpieces are presented here as a set of individually framed, full-color-plus-gold lithographs.

The originals were painted by the Limbourg Brothers 1413 - 1416. They are significant for the way the artists integrated real human activity into realistic depictions of nature. The original book is in the Louvre.

The frames are thin gold molding accented with blue and red. The framing was by a gallery in Frieburg, Germany (name and address stamped on back of each). The prints are probably German as well.

Circa early 1900s.

Each measures 4-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches

Very Good overall condition. Some gold wear to frames. No damage to prints or glass and no repairs found.
