First U.S. Edition. 159p., color pictorial dust jacket, blue cloth with silver spine lettering, and blind-stamped head study on front cover, beautifully illustrated in color throughout. This is a wonderful book about sled dogs. The author traces the earliest portrayals of dogs pulling sleds to prehistoric rock paintings in Siberia. He relates the first accounts by Europeans of dogs pulling loads across the ice in Greenland. The race for the poles is vividly portrayed. The Author also relates the highlights of sled dog racing. Included is a description of the breeds of sled dogs (Samoyed, Alaskan Malamute, Alaskan Husky, Greenlander, Siberian Husky), information on pulk racing and skijoring, and the addresses of clubs, associations and publications. Jacket ha some gentle edge wear, back jacket has some soiling, boards clean and bright, interior clean and sound and in excellent condition.
