In this book, author Cecil Douglas Carpenter has created the definitive history of one of the most colorful and interesting firms in American tackle history. Sadly, most American anglers (and even more than a few collectors) have never heard of the Fred Rinehart Tackle Company. Yet for two and a half decades, beginning around 1937, the Rinehart Tackle Company produced a variety of unique fishing tackle. The company underwent two ownership changes that not only moved the operations geographically, but also brought fresh ideas to the business and changes to the line of lures. The tackle continued to evolve from its humble beginnings, through its peak and up until shortly before it went out of business. The company slowed down somewhat, but continued to produce lures during World War II while larger tackle companies shifted to war production. The name of the company was prominently displayed on most of the packaging materials and through advertisements, but not on the lures themselves. This contributed to the company and its lures falling into relative obscurity. Many less successful fishing tackle companies are more widely known long after closing simply because their name was displayed somehow on their product.
