George Farington was a student at the Royal Academy and studied with Benjamin West (1738 1820). George maintained a diary from 1793 chronicling the important arts of the period and won many awards for his historical renderings. John Keyse Serwin, esteemed engraver and successful history painter, was a member of the Royal Academy and a student of John Astley (1720 1787) and one of the few pupils of Francesco Bartolozzi (1725 1815). Sherwin was appointed engraver to King George III in 1785 and was also engraver to the King of Wales. Although he made a handsome income his prodigal nature left him in extreme poverty when he died in 1790.
