The Holy Family, by Nicholo Beretoni (1603 1655), was drawn by G. Farington (1752 1788) and engraved by John Keyse Serwin (1751 1790) for the Houghton Gallery Series collection.
George Farington was a student at the Royal Academy and studied with Benjamin West (1738 1820). George maintained a diary from 1793 chronicling the important arts of the period and won many awards for his historical renderings. John Keyse Serwin, esteemed engraver and successful history painter, was a member of the Royal Academy and a student of John Astley (1720 1787) and one of the few pupils of Francesco Bartolozzi (1725 1815). Although he made a handsome income his prodigal nature left him in extreme poverty when he died in 1790.
