The Holy Family, by Nicholo Beretoni (1603 – 1655), was drawn by G. Farington (1752 – 1788) and engraved by John Keyse Serwin (1751 – 1790) for the Houghton Gallery Series collection.

George Farington was a student at the Royal Academy and studied with Benjamin West (1738 – 1820). George maintained a diary from 1793 chronicling the important arts of the period and won many awards for his historical renderings. John Keyse Serwin, esteemed engraver and successful history painter, was a member of the Royal Academy and a student of John Astley (1720 – 1787) and one of the few pupils of Francesco Bartolozzi (1725 – 1815). Sherwin was appointed engraver to King George III in 1785 and was also engraver to the King of Wales. Although he made a handsome income his prodigal nature left him in extreme poverty when he died in 1790.

The Holy Family, was published by the eminent English publisher, John Boydell (1719 – 1804), March 2, 1778, in Cheapside London. The Holy Family engraving has a vellum covering and measures, 16.00 H X 18.00” W, with the image size of, 12.50” H X 15.00” W.
