“The Courting in Morning’s Dress” Vintage Print

Unavailable
“The Courting in Morning's Dress" is a vintage print of a couple in period clothing from the first half of the 19th century, dressed for a morning's outing. This rendering is of a time when woman wore all sorts of undergarments, including tightly laced corsets and crinolines to make their waist's appear unbelievably small. The crinoline was a petticoat of sorts, made of a linen material woven with horsehair. More and more crinolines were added until the skirts were very full, thus becoming very heavy, cumbersome, and probably very itchy due to the horsehair. This attire was definitely unbearable in the summer heat. By the 1840's men's cut-away coats, on the contrary, became less stiffening and were made lighter and suppler, as exhibited in this print. The lady, with fan in hand and hat on, appears to be ready for a morning jaunt. “The Courting in Morning's Dress" has been professionally framed and measures 18.25" H X 16.25" W X 01.00" D, including the frame.
