Description: Originally from Cedarville, New Jersey, Walter De Maris was born in 1877. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City and was a member of the American Artists Professional League. De Maris was a contributing illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post and other publications. This scene is an example of his illustrative talent in this story-like scene. De Maris can be found in Who Was Who in American Art. The colonial illustration has the original frame included and is signed in the lower left hand corner.
