Tester Bed

Unavailable
This is a fantastic solid mahogany tester bed. It has a canopy, the original headboard, original finish, and rails. Originally, the bed was a rope bed but was converted early on to a slat bed. Please note that the headboard is made out of two woods. The top portion is mahogany. The bottom portion I believe is cherry but it could be maple or poplar, with the old finish, it is hard to tell. The two part headboard was occassionly made however, it is rare. My educated guess is that the gentleman cut a corner. The pillows will cover up the cherry only leaving the mahogany visable. The canopy is old but I doubt original. Canopies are like tires on a car in that they were upholstered to and discarded without much thought. This piece probably originated in Richmond, VA. It descended through a Richmond family and has Richmond turning characteristics done by Rockwell. All in all, it is a beautiful bed. Additional photos are available upon request.
