Tall 18" Antique Moriage Vase / Mums & Poppies

Unavailable
Stunning 18.25 inch double-handled moriage vase, featuring vibrant chrysanthemums and poppies on a background of greens and pinks. Moriage refers to raised decorations made from liquid clay or gesso, much like icing on a cake. The handles of this exquisite vase are decorated with lines of pink and turquoise moriage dots. The front of the vase is covered with large pink, white, and turquoise moriage chrysanthemums with yellow centers, among winding green stems and leaves. The back has what appear to be one blue and one pink poppy blossom along with a pink bud; each flower is frosted in white. Around the bottom of the vase is a scalloped moriage design in green, turquoise, pink, and white.

The vase appears to be of Asian origin, probably Japanese, and from the late 1800's or early 1900's. It is unsigned. The vase measures approximately 18.25 inches high, 11.25 inches wide, and 7.75 inches deep; it weighs nearly 7.5 pounds. The interior of the vase is glazed although there are a few missed areas, as well as some missed areas of glaze on the inside of the handles. The piece is in very good condition, with no apparent chips or cracks. The moriage decoration appears intact. There are minor imperfections that appear to be a result of the production process. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping / packaging will be $17.00 - $37.00, depending on the location and zipcode of the buyer.
