Italian Pietra Dura Mosaic Stone Plaque or Tabletop Depicting Village Landscape
This magnificent pietre dure plaque depicts an Italian village with folks at leisure and travel along a narrow path beside modest homes and a magnificent church and spire, with a brilliant blue sky. Measures 32.3 by 20.3 by 0.8 inches (82 by 52 by 2 cm), and weighs an estimated 50-70 lbs. Condition is excellent, with no visible damages or signs of restoration to the top. There are scuffs, abrasions, and scratches along the edges of the slate frame. Believed to date from the late nineteenth century to early twentieth century. The work is unsigned and we have no details on provenance. This exceptional genre mosaic may be framed and displayed as a plaque or used as a table top.
