A fabulous plate painted and signed by Valère Bernard a well known and listed artist. Very art nouveau almost deco in feel. No damage and as beautiful a plate as one I likely to find. Great gilding and superb artistry. About 9" across. CIrca 1900 or a bit before. One of a mirrored plates see our other listings. Save $100 if buying the pair.

These over-the-glaze marks are like those from the reign of Louis-Phillippe in France which was 1830-1848 and are most likely reproduced versions of the original Sevres marks. The blue circled mark says Sevres 1844. The backward P's mark says SV 40 or possibly 4G (can't read the last digit or letter). The red mark says Chateau Des Tuileries and is most likely a decorator's mark and possibly from Limoges or Paris. A similar mark is shown on page 395 of Gaston's Third Edition Limoges book, except it is Chateau De St. Cloud. It is referred to as an overglaze decorating mark and c.1900.
