Stoneware Textured Climbing Frog Vase Signed M. Madsen & Elaine W / made with Mount Saint Helen's Ash Glaze
Very unusual large stoneware pottery vase with texturing and has 3 frog in relief climbing up the sides. In addition is a tree stump on one side and the other side has a round seal to mark that it is was made with Mount Saint Helen's Ash Glaze. At first glance I thought the body of the vase was depicting a tree trunks. However on closer inspection and critical thought it can be a tree trunk. It is muddy ground and there is a small tree stump. In any event it is a very interesting earthy piece of artistic pottery. There are several markings on the bottom. In script is written M. Madsen. Then there is a windmill mark which has the name of Elaine W. R or Elaine WA under that. It is dated 1987. So far I have not been able to find out any information on the artist or potter. This vase is heavy, weighing 5 pounds and is 11" tall.
It is in excellent condition.
