Stone Sculpture of Perched American Bald Eagle After Paul Bartlett

Unavailable

This magnificent sculpture depicts an American bald eagle perched on a rocky peak, and appears to be a work after the Eagle of Preparedness by the American sculptor, Paul Wayland Bartlett (1865-1925). The original work by Bartlett was created in 1916 and was inspired by the sinking of the British ship Lusitania. The event sparked a military “preparedness” movement in America, and Bartlett's eagle was an expression of his support for the Allied cause and the move to rearm. His eagle was perched upon a rock with military shield at its feet. The sculpture measure s 32" by 10" by 12" (82.6 by 25.4 by 30.5 cm). The quality of the carving is wonderful. We have found no signature. Condition is good. There is a crack in the rear facing the right. ( H091314L65550E1.5-2A1.9
