Very nice quality sterling silver snuff box, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1909. Maker: RC, probably Robert Chandler. Bottom of box is curved for for pocket use. Gilded interior to lid. Box is engraved on the outside : A Memento of York Pageant 1909. James 1 Rex. (H. H. Riley Smith)". Possibly Riley Smith played the part of King James 1 in the pageant. Silver weight is 78.74 grams. Excellent condition. Measures 17 mm high, 65 mm wide and 50 mm deep (5/8 inch x 2.1/2 inches x 1.7/8 inches).
