Here we have a very nice sterling silver cigarette case made by the Elgin Company. It is excellent condition and signed on the inside Sterling Elgin America U.S.A. There are two flaps inside to hold cigarettes but this is also a good size for business cards. It seems that maybe there is an original lacquer on this piece. It looks to me like it couldn't be polished. Look at photo carefully, only tiny discoloration is visible upon close examination. No dents and nice and tight spring hinges.
