This is a very clean Stanley Jack plane from the World War II era. It is 14" long x 2" wide cutter. It has 94% of the original Japanning intact, very clean! The bed is the heavy wall type that Stanley made during the War period. The hardwood handle and knob are in very good condition no cracks, clean very nice finish on them. The cap cover is marked "STANLEY" in raised lettering. The bed is marked "BAILEY MADE IN U.S.A. NO. 5" and the cutter is marked with the rectangular logo "STANLEY MADE IN U.S.A.". The cutter is about 98% full length, sharp and ready to use. The bare metal surfaces are all very clean, no rust very little wear, a few tiny edge dings noted. A very nice plane with a good flat bottom ready to use! This particular plane has a few features that I have rarely observed on planes from the WWII period. It has the hard rubber and metal cutter depth adjustment, and the older stype frog with on frog adjustment screw also. Walter's book on Stanley Tools mentions this is rarely observed but has been on the Type 17. Also note his book says some do not have the kidney shaped hole in the cap cover, as is the rare case with this plane. A very well maintained plane!
