Stand, Dressing, Ivory and Sandal Wood, Vizagapatam
Unavailable
To a fine Anglo-Indian etched Ivory Dressing stand made in the late 18th century, This example is from Vizagapatam. The original beveled mirror plate swivels above a slant-front case enclosing a fitted interior over a drawer with compartmentalized sandal wood lined interior, supported on bun feet. Note: the piece retains the original solid silver locks & hinges which also have very fine engraving. The piece has small repairs and one small missing section but otherwise is in marvelous condition including the very rare mercury mirror and backboard. The mirror was made in such a fashion that it could be removed for traveling as it has the original hanging top piece. Mirrors in India in the 18th C. were a very rare commodity.
