Offered for sale is a mid 19th C Staffordshire stoneware juice jug. This light blue juice jug is relief molded with alternating floral and portrait medallions surrounding its body. It has a portrait as its spout with swags and flowers on each side. This figure is probably religeous as it sits above a cross. The figural handle seems to represent a serpent, or possibly a swan head, with a rope design as the business portion of the handle which ends in a tail-like design. The jug is glazed both inside and out. The registry mark on the base indicates a manufacture date of 1867. This jug is beautifully made, with no firing flaws anywhere on its body or handle. Measuring 6" high x 4" wide across its body x 4 1/2" deep from spout tip to handle tip, and weighing 421.5 grams / 14.87 ounces, this delightful jug is offered for sale at $198.
