Square In A Square Quilt, 1880's - QLT
Click thumbnails for expanded view.
This is a very nice quilt from the 1880's. It has a wonderful assortment of fabrics in it from the 1840's to the 1880's. It is done in a Square within a Square pattern. It has a thin wool batt and is hand pieced and hand quilted with 10-12 stitches per inch. The backing is the same brown fabric as the lateral strips. There is some deterioration of some of the fabrics in some squares, see pictures. Overall this is a great example of quilting from this period using scrap fabrics that had been saved over a period of 20 years.
