This is a lovely Japanned Tin Spice Tray and 6 Small Spice Canisters in Very Good + Condition. The set dates between 1860 to 1870 and is described on page 504 of "300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles" by Linda Campbell Franklin. The tray measures 5-1/2" long by 3-3/4" wide by 1" high at the sides with a long nicely arched strap handle going from one end across the top and down to the other end. The height to the center of the handle is 4". The handle has rolled over edges. Each individual spice canister measures 1-3/4" in diameter, stands 3" high and has a removable convex top. The set is in wonderful condition with no dents, chips, splits, rust or loose solders. The tin shows some loss of Japanning, most noticeable on the tops of some tins and on the underside of the tray from surface movement. All the tin shows that wonderful rich patina that aged Japanning gets. This is truly a lovely Spice Tray with 6 Small Spice Canisters that would look great in any chuck box or vintage kitchen.
