These striking transfer printed, hand-colored & enameled Plates were made by Frank Beardmore & Co. of the Sutherland Pottery, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent. In business for just a few years, from 1901-1915. They produced souvenir ware for the American and Canadian market amongst other wares. These gorgeous plates are a departure from the rather ordinary & boring plates of monuments & landmarks of cities & towns in North America. Bold & graphic they are a triumph in design. I don't know who these handsome fellows are but I'm sure they are famous warriors whose portraits here were no doubt lifted from engravings of the times or earlier. The colors are strong & brilliant. The condition is just about perfect were it not for a 1" hairline starting at the rim of "Chief two feathers" at 9:00. Very shiny glaze. I'm sure they are part of a series and would love to hear from anyone who can tell me more about them incl. who they represent & from what Tribe or Nation.
