Spanish Dancer by Hungarian Pal Fried
Unavailable
This oil on canvas by the Hungarian-born American painter, Pal Fried (1893-1976), depicts a lovely Spanish dancer and is titled on the rear Carmencita. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Canvas measures 30" by 24" and the frame measures 38.25" by 32.25" by 2.5". This work likely dates from the 1970s and is in very good condition, with no craquelure, damages or restorations. The vintage frame likely dates from the period of the painting, and is also in good condition. There is, however, a small tear to the canvas matte toward the lower left corner. Fried was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1893. He studied under Hugo Pohl at the Hungarian Academy and later move to Paris to train under Lucien Simone at the Acad'e Julien and with Claude Monet. Pohl is generally credited with Fried's concentration of many portraits, nudes and Oriental scenes in pastel, but he also worked extensively in oil paint. In 1947 Fried moved to the U.S. to teach at the Academy of Arts in New York City. Shortly he became a popular portraitist serving high society in Manhattan, and when he later moved to Hollywood he maintained this status among the elite in southern California. His works are often signed Fried Pal (simply his last name first). Pal Fried died in New York in 1976. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( dualant )
