Beautifully engraved certificate from the Southeast Missouri Lead Company issued in 1906-1907. This historic document has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an eagle with its wings spread out and a shield and laurel in its claws. This item is hand signed by the companys president and secretary and is over 93 years old. The Southeast Missouri Lead Company was involved with barite ores which was extracted by independent miners from public and private lands at Cannon Mines in Washington County. The accumulated ore was shipped by rail from Potosi to milling companies and mineral agents. Among the firms and individuals involved with this effor included: C. P. De Lore Company, Foote Mineral Company, J. C. Finck Mineral Milling Company, National Pigments & Chemical Company, E. J. Boyer, Adelbert E. Stocking, and J. M. Thompson. The Southeast Missouri Lead Company looked into the possibilities of selling the company's holdings to the United States government for incorporation into the national forest during the 1930's.
