Antique Chinese Song Dynasty (960-1279) delicately potted large white-glazed ceramic plate decorated on the exterior with a geometric pattern design, covered with a pale blue translucent glaze.
This is the largest Song dynasty plate which we have ever had and seen. According to the book, Chinese Ceramics: A New Comprehensive Survey from the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the largest song dynasty dish is 9 inches in diameter, so I assume that this is the largest. Larger platters appear in the Yuan and Ming dynasty, but not in the Song dynasty, therefore this is a rare example of a large Song Dynasty plate.
This plate is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the National Museum of the Philippines in 1987.
MEASUREMENTS: The actual diameter of the plate is 22.5 cm (8 7/8 in). Height; 4 cm (1 5/8)
CONDITION: in good condition; no cracks chips or restorations. There are spots of dark iron oxide along the rim.
