A most unusual smoked glass biscuit barrel with a pleasing scroll & circular pattern. Its silver plate hinged lid is very rare as the vast majority of Biscuit Barrels feature separate lids. Also remarkable is the elaborate "sheaf of wheat" finial. raditionally Biscuit Barrels would be be the elegant receptacle for the biscuits (similar to American crackers but sweeter) served at tea time. As the tea services became more elaborate and ritualized, more elegant the Biscuit Barrels were needed. We currently have a collection of over 100 Biscuit Barrels - ranging from the traditional cut glass versions, to ones with elaborate etched designs, rare colours and unique designs incorporated in wooden barrels.
