A small Gold on Translucent Lead Crystal "Splash" made in Bayel France..................Bayel, a village in the champagne region of France, between Lorraine and Burgundy, has been a glass making centre since circa 1300. In 1666 Jean-Baptiste Mazzolay, a Venetian glass master , created the Cristalleries there, under the control of the monks of Clairvaux, the then proprietors. King Louis XIV of France became a patron, the title of the Cristalleries then became "Manufacture Royale en Cristaux de Bayel“. In later years the title was changed to Cristalleries Royales de champagne" The tradition of the refined hand-make work has remained alive ever since, producing the clearest and most finely crafted crystal. This beautiful piece of hand made lead crystal, was produced we believe, circa 1930-40......... One from a large collection we have acquired, sold by a Baroness......
