This is a nice clean, useable 19th century finish hand saw with a 26" long blade. It is marked "WARRANTED THE SIMONDS SAW WORKS FITCHBURG MASS. CHICAGO, ILL. U.S.A. UNEQUALED UNIFORMITY IN QUALITY BRANCH HOUSES NEW YORK, NEW ORLEANS, PORTLAND OREGON" etch on the blade, with a rare mark "THE SIMONDS SAW AND STEEL COMPANY" on the handle medallion. The blade is sharp and cuts good, you get a nice finish cut with the 10 TPI (TOOTH PER INCH) blade. The blade is about 99% straight, not perfect, but no kinks and no rust. Some minor finish darkening or staining noted, but very clean and smooth. The handle is solid, with a few past owner's intials noted near the medallion of the handle, otherwise no cracks, no damage, some wear like rounding of some outer edges, some clear finish worn off, but is clean and smooth. Nice wheat carving on one side of the handle. The brass hardware is in nice shape, all screws holding tightly, handle fits very well to the blade. A hard to find 19th century hand-saw with a rarely seen maker's mark on the medallion. This one seems to have been well cared for, and enough so that it will be useful to finish cut wood today!
