Outstanding 19th Century Victorian Hand Engraved Filigree & Open Work Silver & Cloisonné Enamel Cigarette Case; with elaborate convoluting filigree scroll work and Cloisonné Enamel floral winding its way cross both sides of the case. Spring loaded lock , as well as a hinged spring loaded arm which functions to hold the cigarettes in place while the piece is on one's person, gold washed interior and hard to make out hallmarks stamped into the exposed wing of the spring lock. Victorians were ingeniously notorious for crafting objects with overwhelming beauty and then weaving the functionality around them. This excellent example of such master craftsmanship must have taken hundreds of hours to meticulously work.
