Signed 19th Century Patinated Bronze Dogs from France

These endearing dogs have been sculpted by the French bronze animalier, Emmanuel Fremiet.   Their posture, their wonderful hound confirmation, and most of all, the expression on their faces indicates someone who has studied animal anatomy, which Fremiet did under Barye.  He also did not follow the trend of vicious fighting animals preferring to show their tender and loving side.  This pair appears to be pondering whether they should really chase what they are seeing and smelling or, just take a nap instead.  The talent to depict what an animal is expressing in a stationary object is quite extraordinary.

This wonderful antique bronze of hounds will bring much enjoyment to any dog lover.
