Profusely illustrated with hundreds of portraits, maps, reproductions of color illuminations, scenery, landscapes, architectural views, facsimiles of early documents & signatures, and a folding panoramic colour plate of Old London Bridge about 1600AD, "The earliest genuine full view, from a unique drawing in Pepy's Collection in Magdalen College, Cambridge". Four volume complete set bound in a fine blue polished calf, full leather binding, with roll-tooled gilt borders. Spine has aged appropriately to a mellow green, and has raised bands with elaborate gilt decorations in compartments, contrasting morocco labels with gilt letters, marbled edges and endpapers. Edited by Mrs. J. R. Green & Miss Kate Norgate, London. In fine condition, except for the occasional light foxing, covers with the minor scuff or light scratch.
