This is a vintage sterling silver shell shaped open salt with ball feet from Mexico. The open salt or salt dip was made in the 1920s and has hallmarks but I can't decipher the maker. The Mexican silver shell salt dish has 3 ball feet and measures .5 inch high by 2 inch long by 2 inches wide and is pictured on page 209 of 5,000 Open Salts Collector's Guide by Heacock and Johnson. The figural shell shape open salt is in excellent condition. Besides being collectible for Mexican silver or salt collectors, these little open salts are also being used as teabag holders and sushi dishes or demitasse spoon holders. Cute!
