This is a set of four (4) Series 8600 chairs of stainless steel tubes and woven steel, designed in 1982 by
Professor Hans Ullrich Bitsch, and made by
Kusch & Co.. Set was purchased new in 1983 and have been held by the same owner ever since. Each measures 31 3/4" high, 20" wide, 20 1/2" deep, and has a seat height of 17.75". This is one of Bitsch's most memorable and important designs and won awards from the following institutions after its launch in 1982: Institute of Business Designers and Contract Magazine; Design Center Stuttgart; and Resources Council, Inc. It is pictured on page 208 of the Sourcebook of Modern Furniture, the comprehensive guide to the most influential and innovative furniture designs of the twentieth century. This design was retired by Kusch & Co. many years ago and is no longer in production. Pictured here with a Classic Column II pedestal table (available separately) designed by

Chairs are in very good condition, with seat backs and seats still firm. Some staining to the seats and backs can be seen in our images below.
Hans-Ullrich Bitsch studied architecture and interior architecture at the University of the Saarland 1964-1968, and industrial design in Chicago 1970-1972. Since 1972 he has taught at Düsseldorf University. He has also been a visiting professor at the Technical University of Delft, University of Texas in Arlington, and at the Royal College of Art in London. From 1977 to 1982 he worked as an architect and designer in the USA and in Europe and was President of the Association of German Interior Architects. During this period he opened his own architecture and design studio in Düsseldorf and exhibited in Berlin, Warsaw, Munich, Venice and Washington D.C. In 1983 he became the President of the World Congress of the International Federation of Interior Architects in Hamburg. He's won numerous awards throughout Europe and around the globe.
