It is not known if this vintage photography can be referred to as CDVs or Cabinet Cards, but they all measure 4 1/4" x 2 5/8". They are exquisitely colorful and detailed portrayals of Italian village life scenes. They are thought to be photographs of art work created by the Italian artist, Gonzalvo Carelli, with two of the cards showing his signature. Carelli (1818-1900) drew landscapes of everyday life in Italy and also was known for portraying some military scenes. These could be correctly dated to the latter part of the 19th c.
