Set of 8 Antique 19th c English Windsor Armchairs

Unavailable
Included here are eight (8) English Windsor hoop-back (sack back) arm chairs dating from the nineteenth century, made from yew and elm wood, including two matching sets of four chairs.  Chairs measure 41.5"-42.5" high, 21"-21.75" wide, and 23"-24.5" deep. Seat widths vary from 14" to 16" and seat heights are all roughly 18". All have wonderfully rich, matching patinas consistent with chairs from the early to mid 19th century. We have individual shots of each chair from multiple angles and will be glad to forward additional images upon request.   Provenance:  Ann Morris Antiques (239 E. 60th St, NY, NY). The set was appraised for insurance purposes by Sotheby's for $18,000. Appraisal copy and additional information on provenance gladly forwarded upon request.    These sack-back chairs feature bowed crestrails above seven spindles, shaped saddle seats, splayed vase and ring-turned legs, and "H" shaped stretchers. Overall condition of the set is good. Each has discrete floor sliders affixed to the undersides of the legs. The set requires the following minor repairs. The hoop arm at one end and a few spindles on one chair require regluing. The turned support of one arm on another chairs must be reglued to the seat. On one chair there is a clean break to one of the members of the stretcher and the entire "H" stretcher must be reglued. On this same chair there is a repaired break to the corner of the seat.  Two original spindles on one chair need to be reglued and are not shown in our image.  This set of chairs are being sold "as-is".  Please study our images carefully and contact us with any questions.  We will be very happy to assist you.
