South of Broad
Cheryl Eckhardt & Jeannine Steel

View South of Broad Inventory

Some of you may be wondering about the name of the store. It refers to the oldest historic section of Charleston, South Carolina. Broad Street runs parallel to the High Battery. Between Broad Street and the High Battery (South of Broad) are some of the oldest homes in the country - homes of the families of some of the Founding Fathers. A great deal of early American history was written in that section. I am a born and bred, died in the wool Charlestonian. I love this city and the history it represents. I chose this name, first of all, because it is one of my favorite places and one of the most beautiful sections of any city I have been in. Secondly, I chose this name because it represents what our store is all about. We love the old, the vintage, antiques. We are constantly searching for vintage and antique items to bring you. We specialize in Vintage Costume Jewelry - DeLizza and Elster (aka Juliana), Miriam Haskell, Stanley Hagler, Hattie Carnegie, Alice Caviness, Lisner, Weiss, Hobe, Ciner and many more. These "Grand Masters" raised costume jewelry to an art form. I have been studying Vintage Jewelry for over 7 years now and find it absolutely fascinating, especially the aspect of how the making of this jewelry (mostly hand made and prong set) paralleled and was affected by historical events. It has become a passion of mine. Another passion of mine is animals. There are over 19 million homeless and abused animals in this country alone - and that is a conservative estimate. A portion of all sales go to our local SPCA - John Ancrum SPCA. My partner and I feel very strongly about this! We also sell other Vintage and Antiques items such as Mason's Regency, Carnival glass, hats, sewing patterns and much more. You never know what you might find in our store. We are in love with anything vintage or antique. My partner Kaitlin McKenna designs and makes jewelry. She worked in Hollywood as a costumer on such television shows as "Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman", "Babylon 5" and movies such as "Mimic" with Mira Sorvino. She has years of experience with the art of making jewelry and the components. She is also an expert on vintage and antique sewing and craft patterns. We love for people to come in and take a look around. Even if you don't make a purchase, we think you are in for a treat! Welcome!
