The Odd Chest is a brick & mortar store in Gordonsville, Virginia. We sell antique English furniture, some American pieces, English stained glass windows, home accessories and gifts. We also have an eBay store in addition to this website. I started the business following a request by a church associate in England to help find an American market for English estate furniture which is being collected and refurbished by his ministry, Betel of Britain. Betel is a Christian Community that brings hope and sobriety to drug addicts and alcoholics.
I am Shirley Mawyer, the owner. I retired from teaching high school math about six months before the opportunity to buy this furniture presented itself. I began The Odd Chest with just myself two part time employees and a forty foot container of beautiful and unique pieces of English furniture. At first we attempted to auction the furniture to local antique dealers. When the auction idea didn't succeed immediately, we started selling retail in antique shows and antique malls. But when our current retail space became available for rent, we pulled out of antique malls and consolidated into our current retail store. We started selling items on the internet in February of 2006.
The Odd Chest currently has a staff of five including myself. We have a great group of gifted dedicated and knowledgeable folks. Sally is our eBay specialist, Shannon in our web manager, Betsy is our bookkeeper, manager and Jill of all trades, and Myrtle is our in house design consultant. Together we are all dedicated to helping you find your newest heirloom.

dealer accepts the following form(s) of payment:
American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, Personal Checks, Wire Transfer, Money Order, PayPal
If paid by personal check, we will ship 7 days after check has cleared. All payments must be made in US dollars.

POLICY
Item will be boxed and/or palletized and shipped insured within 3 business days of receipt of payment other than checks.

RETURNS
POLICY
If Property purchased is materially different than as represented by The Odd Chest, the original buyer shall have the right within seven business days of receiving the Property to rescind the transaction by so notifying The Odd Chest and by returning the Property to us, in the same condition as when received by the buyer, at the buyer's risk, cost and expense.
If the item was damaged during shipping, buyer needs to contact the shipper to resolve this matter. The Odd Chest will provide any necessary paperwork to help buyer with his/her claim.
