The Old California Store has been one of the most innovative antique stores in California. Owners Don Shorts and Dolores Fisher discovered a lost and forgotten style of furniture made in California during the late 1920s 1930s and early 1940s. This style is called Rancho and is best known for one of the brands called Monterey. The style was very popular in that period and was collected by such movie stars as Paul Munie and Will Rogers. Today it is collected by actresses Diane Keaton and Julia Roberts. Starting out with a few pieces of Monterey Furniture , the store is now well known for its specialty. The owners curated a show of Monterey at the California Heritage Museum in 1985 and have participated in numerous high end antique shows. The Old California Store was featured in several articles in the Los Angeles Times, Westways magazine and Architectural Digest. The store not only specializes in furniture of the period but also all the vintage accessories of the time, such as pottery ( Catalina & Bauer), tile (Malibu and Taylor), mexicana, textiles, and iron lighting etc. The Old California Store also features paintings with early California Spanish and Mexican themes. The store is open Friday through Sunday from 11 to 5 and is open by appointment. |
