M. Markley Antiques was established in 1991 when its owners, Meril and Michael Markley, lived in Paris, France. It has been operating in the United States since 1993 and is located in the forests of The Woodlands, Texas. During that time it has established and enhanced its reputation as the leading source in the U.S. for French Gothic Revival and Renaissance Revival furniture as well as the perfect oriental rugs and ceramics that complement the furniture offerings. The business is owned by Michael and Meril Markley who dedicate their time, their resources, and their passion for France to all aspects of their enterprise. Michael is a lawyer by training but an entrepreneur by inclination, who conceived the business when he accompanied his wife, Meril, an international tax attorney, on a two-year assignment in Paris. This gave him the opportunity to learn the antiques business from the inside out and to establish his network of sources and suppliers for Gothic and Renaissance items. The Markleys travel regularly to France where they select each item personally. Drawing on the wealth of scholarly information available in French, each item offered by M. Markley Antiques is studiously researched and documented in English so that clients receive a full understanding of its stylistic origins and condition as well as its historical significance in the ‘pageant of history’ and how the piece was used, both practically and for show or ‘decor’ functions. M. Markley Antiques is committed to preserving the output of gifted yet anonymous French craftsmen and to bringing their masterpieces to the American marketplace where they will be treasured for generations to come.
