Rare style with large fully-developed basket hilt formed of oval bars with pierced 4-leaf
clover motif. Reverse with open oval for reins; forward guard screwed to basket. Large
bun-shaped pommel with button; rayskin-covered grip with two sizes of iron wire in the
grooves. Broad unmarked 35" single-edged blade with long single fuller and spear
point; showing forging lamination. Large and ornate example, likely made for a heavy
cavalry or dragoon officer. Sword with similar basket in the Warwick Castle Collection.
Very good condition with metal generally smooth and bright. Overall length 41 1/2".
