An allegorical painting depicting Summer from a series of The Four Seasons, approx. 38-1/2" x 50" canvas size, framed in a 4" wide gilt frame, overall approx. 46" x 57-3/4". The Family da Ponte of Bassano was principally famous for their Mannerist compositions using tightly compressed space to create a scene of bursting energy, with life-like rustic figures and animals. The dramatic lighting and colors are characteristic of the Mannerist style. The scenes depict the seasonal changes that could be observed in Bassano.
