This is an unusual stlye hatchet, rather small in size, marked "L. A. SAYRE NEWARK N.J. 140". Some of the letters are a bit hard to read, but I have seen the mark before. The hatchet is in good used condition as shown in the pictures. No cracks, nice harwood handle is 14" long, 1 1/4 x 4 1/4" head. Rare makers' mark!
