Beautiful Kyoto or Awati ware (in Satsuma style) vase. It has molded drapery around the top of the body. The folds reveal, on one side, a high ranking man with attendants, and on the other a courtly woman with her attendants. The rest of the piece is decorated with intricate geometric patterns. The painting is almost entirely red and gold.
Markings are on the unglazed rim of the base as shown in photo.
Age is difficult to judge. We are not experts in this field. We purchased this item from an estate and believe it is 50 - 100 years old. It may be older. We welcome questions.
MEASURES: 14 inches tall
Very good overall condition. No chips, cracks or repairs found. There is some darkened crazing around the mouth of the vase.
Please see our inventory for more Imari, Kutani, Satsuma and Nippon porcelain. As well as fine antiques of all kinds.
