It reads, To Gov. Jas D Porter Jr. with the Compliments of the Author. May 12 1882. Porter was the Governor of Tennessee from 1875 to 1879, an incredible association! The classic Confederate memoir, noted as having perhaps the finest description of the Battle of Franklin every written. Great content on the Civil War and the Armies of Tennessee. One of only 2000 of the First Edition. Bumping on the corners. Cloth tattered along the edge, most notably on the spine. Light toning. Occasional brown spotting on interior pages. Good condition.
