Russian Garnet Gold Earrings, circa 1880

These rare Russian earrings were made in the imperial capital in the late 19th century. Typical of the period, they are set with oval-cut garnets in their original prong mountings, and are fitted with European hinge backs, the top of which swings on a hinge and hooks into the top of earring, for pierced ears.

Size of garnet in mount 1/4 in. (.6 cm.) long; 1/2 in. (1.3 cm.) long including wire.
