Lovely and rare pair of art deco c. 1932 bookends entitled 'Hope'. This lovely allegorical lady is featured a top a globe, eyes blindfolded and playing a wooden lyre. It was manufactured by K & O - Kronheim & Oldenbusch who great a lovely array of beautiful early deco and art nouveau pieces. They were in business between 1859 and 1939. Most of their bookends were produced between 1928 and 1935. Watts painted Hope in 1886 after the passing of his adopted daughter Blanche. Filled with hope and melancholy at the same time.
CONDITION: Excellent, no damage, repairs or excessive wear. Nice and heavy.
